Conceive. Believe. Achieve.

From what I already know about these sites, very few of the statistics in this article are that surprising.  However I’m sure a deeper look at this study will be VERY helpful to online marketers as they develop their strategies.

What I think is most interesting about this article is the short discussion on brands - about half (52%) of the population of social network users has “friended or become a fan of at least one brand,” but only 17% feel positively about seeing a brand on a social network.  So if 64% of the “user” population doesn’t care if they see the brand or not, what compels them to associate with a particular brand at all?  And what value does the number of fans have for a brand?  I am one that feels neutrally/doesn’t care about seeing the brands and out of 12 pages that I am a fan of on facebook I actually went looking for 4 and only clicked a “become a fan” button outside of facebook on 2.  The other six I’m just a fan of because a) I was invited or b) it’s in support of family.  So I’m kind of a worthless fan to 50% of the brands it appears I support.
