It's football season....
….but it still feels like summer :(
I distinctly remember it was a beautiful fall-like day last year on the first day of Michigan football. It was the perfect day for football and prompted me to create this post.
The start of football season makes me giddy inside - it makes me nostalgic for my high school marching band days when we had Friday night football games and Saturday...

Muze Clothing and ALS →
Check out the “Hope is a Good Thing” shirt from Muze Clothing! Muze partnered with The ALS Association to create a shirt using Muze’s philosophy to combine movie quotes, fashion and charity. Do you know what movie this quote is from?
From Muze’s website:
Our shirts connect people through a common love of great movie lines and classic apparel. Muze leverages that...

Missing Michigan
People who know me know that my least favorite thing about Kansas City is the weather. I don’t do a lot of complaining in spring and fall (although I do miss the vivid colors on the trees) but I think I more than make up for it in the summer and winter. July and August are probably the worst and this is why:
Kansas City is in a heat advisory warning until tomorrow night and believe it or...

The Thatchers take San Francisco!
Christmas was vacation #2 for the Kansas City Crowleys this year, this time with the Thatchers (my side of the family). That’s quite an accomplishment for us considering we haven’t taken a real vacation since our honeymoon in 2007!
Dustin and I arrived in San Francisco on December 20 - three days before the rest of the family arrived. This gave us a few days to spend with Jared and...

I'm Back!
And there is lots to catch up on! I have no idea what has kept me so busy over the past few months but clearly something has - I haven’t even uploaded pictures from Christmas! For anyone who still pays attention to my blog, here are some things you have to look forward to (or dread) as I attempt to catch up!

Goodbye Cable, Hello Productivity!
It felt like a looong summer of reality TV and because I’m not a big fan of reality TV I spent most of it watching reruns of my favorite shows and gaining an appreciation for Glee - which I somehow remained oblivious to last year. But as excited as I am for the return of my favorite shows and [hopefully] some resolution to some season finale cliff hangers I’ve also felt a little bit...

Crowley Family Vacation
For the last 10 months or so, Dustin and I have been anxiously awaiting the 2010 Crowley family vacation in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
All said and done it was a great week with a lot of great memories that will hopefully last us a long time. Most notably it was hot. Very, very hot. The highest recorded temperature for the week was 96 degrees which isn’t much different than Kansas...

QUIZ TIME!
Yummy baked goods will go to the first person to answer correctly.

Walk to Defeat ALS →
The Keith Worthington Chapter provides more than a dozen support group meetings in the Chapter service area every month. These groups provide information about ALS and managing the disease, and the much-needed fellowship of others who are walking the same journey.
Funds raised during the walk will go to help fund programs like these. Visit the link above or in my sidebar to visit my personal...

Birthday List
With my birthday coming up on April 16 I thought it was only appropriate that I post my wish list. While this is mostly just a place to gather my own thoughts, hopefully it will also serve as a reference for people who want to buy me gifts now or later.
Magazine subscriptions to Real Simple and Martha Stewart Living - I probably buy enough of these magazines off the rack to pay for the...

Enlightenment
I’m one of the few people I know in this world who doesn’t like and doesn’t drink coffee. I’m a tea drinker and have been ever since I can remember. I’ve always been a little bit jealous of all the different kinds of coffee drinks offered at the coffee shops and thought I was relegated to buying bagged tea at the grocery store. Now I have found some tea bags that I...

Unemployed no longer...
…well sort of.
Tomorrow February 1 I start a part-time job with the ALS Association, Keith Worthington Chapter. I’ve wanted to work in the non-profit since I was in college and getting laid off last October gave me the opportunity I needed to take this leap of faith. If I were still working full-time I wouldn’t have taken a second look at a part-time position but when...

10 Years is a Long Time
Ten years ago I was 15 and enjoying the time of my life - I had already traveled abroad to France, Amsterdam, Holland and Tahiti and was anxiously awaiting my second trip to France in the spring. I had great friends, a great family and was blissfully naive about the world I lived in. I remember celebrating the year 2000 at a friends house and discussions of Y2K and what we should be doing...

Christmas 2009
Christmas started early for the Crowley’s this year and came in phases. Back in November mom Thatcher graciously bought new beds and blankets from L.L. Bean for both Gus and Clover. They got to open them at Thanksgiving and after a long day of begging for food and being told ‘no’ I think they enjoyed the reward; But I’ll let you be the judge.
Next came Christmas for...

Catching Up
I’m not very good about getting pictures off my camera in a timely manner, and really I’m not that good at taking pictures in the first place so even though I haven’t transfered photos since before Halloween there’s not that much to catch up on!
Dustin and I were invited to join a kickball league this fall. We started out pretty decent but ended up playing an...

Unemployment - Week 5
Well, here I am at the beginning of my fifth week after being laid off and yes, still unemployed. Here are some updates:
Unemployment seems to be calculated based on the last 18 months of unemployment, and since I worked in Kansas at some point during that period I was able to claim unemployment in Kansas which will pay me about $100 more per week than Missouri - wohoo!
I still haven’t...

Halloween 2009
Since we don’t have kids of our own yet Dustin and I kind of think of our dogs as kids. We (I?) like to take them wherever they can come but because they are so big it’s not always so easy. This year we decided to take a chance and try taking them to our church’s Trunk-or-Treat. But what kid goes trick-or-treating without a Halloween costume? So after months of brainstorming...

Race Day
The Kansas City Marathon has come and gone and I survived.
My training did not exactly go as planned though - I took a break for a couple weeks in July around my Aunt Bette’s funeral and in September I developed some tendonitis in my right foot that prevented me from running more than 2-3 miles at a time. Luckily my team was nice enough to give me the first leg of the race, a whopping 3.3...

Unemployment - Day 1
At 5 pm on October 5 I found out that my company could no longer afford to employ me - effective immediately. I was actually given two options: I could take the lay off and they would pay me two weeks severance plus any accrued and unused vacation and sick time, or I could work part time until a) I found another job or b) they couldn’t afford to do that anymore either.
While I was...
